IPE is the predominantly used name used for the Lapacho family of trees from the various species of Tabebuia. The trees generally grow from 140 to 160 feet.
Some Common Names for Ipe are: Amapa, Cortez, Guayacan, Guayacan polvillo, Flor Amarillo, Greenhart, Madera Negra, Tahuari, IN, Lapacho negro, Ironwood
Ipe is imported from South America and distributed worldwide.
Be sure to consider lumber grade when selecting your Ipe. Make sure you get a quality premium grade or even a select grade, be aware of mixed grades.
You should expect no warped or twisted lumber. Some checking on the ends of deck boards and checking through out large lumber can occur. Upon installation the deck may need to be cleaned to remove dirt or stains from shipment and packaging material.
