Ipe is a beautiful hardwood from South and Central America. The Ipe heartwood is a rich reddish brown wood with green tint often with light and dark striping throughout the length of the lumber. Ipe is an extremely hard and strong wood which comes in long lengths and has little to no warp.
Ipe is a very durable hardwood and is resistant to decay, fungi, termites and even has a Class A fire rating.
Due to the density of Ipe, it is resistant to preservatives, all that is needed is a finish applied on an annual basis to maintain its beautiful rich natural color.
Ipe Decking can be cut as tongue and groove deck boards as well as 1x radius edge decking.

IPE is the predominantly used name used for the Lapacho family of trees from the various species of Tabebuia. The trees generally grow from 140 to 160 feet.

Be sure to consider lumber grade when selecting your Ipe. Make sure you get a quality premium grade or even a select grade, be aware of mixed grades.
You should expect no warped or twisted lumber. Some checking on the ends of deck boards and checking through out large lumber can occur. Upon installation the deck may need to be cleaned to remove dirt or stains from shipment and packaging material.
